The only person I know who isn’t on email would be devastated if I disturbed a bird’s nest to mail her a letter.

I’m not sure who put the note up. You’re probably right that it was the postie–that’s the only person who’d have opened it–but I’d imagined it was a neighbor, who’d seen the parents flying in. Whoever it was, what a neat thing to do.

Bizarrely prompt answer to a question posted elsewhere: “Do they have mailboxes in the U.K.?” The internet is a weird and wonderfully circular universe where all answers will eventually find you. Not postage required.

Some of the answers, unfortunately, will find you before the questions do, leaving you baffled and unable to match “yes they do” to the proper question.

Good thing that’s not here in the U.S. Unauthorized use of a mailbox is a federal offense. I would make a jailbird joke, but I’m just not that clever.
